Automatic standby generator

Postby forhire » Wed Jul 14, 2004 3:15 am

A couple of weeks ago our new standby generator arrived. We just completed the concrete pad that the generator will sit on. Once the pad cures we'll place the generator and have the electrician hook it up. It will be very nice to have reliable backup power.

We installed the rubber shock mounts for the generator this morning. We are waiting for the fork lift to install the genset on the slab tomorrow. I can's wait to see it installed.

After a long hot afternoon we finally have the generator set on the slab and fully bolted down. We are now awaiting the electrician.

We passed our electrical inspection and have scheduled with the PUD to energize the new service on Wednesday September 1st at 8:00 AM. The electrician will require about 10 or 15 minutes to cut over our panels once the main service is switched. No outages are expected as our battery backups should last. We expect to load test the generator within two weeks. Hopefully we can complete this upgrade before more bad weather hits.

The PUD and the electrician completed the transfer of service to our new panel. We have scheduled to load test the generator on Wednesday, September 8th, 2004 in the morning. Barring no issues we will be ready to put the unit in service mid next week. Soon we can all sleep better at night.

The generator passed it's load testing this morning and we have sucessfully transfered power automatically. We now have backup power withing 7 seconds of a power outage. Sure beats getting out of bed in the middle of the night. I guess now "we'll leave the lights on for you" :)

This thread is finally closed.
