Extracting a debian .deb file

Postby forhire » Thu Mar 16, 2006 10:54 pm

I needed a cool set of apache icons. The author was offering them as a debian package. Unlike a cobalt pkg I couldn't simply untar them. As it turned out they were an archieve. So I used the ar command (ar -x file.deb) which extracted a couple of tar gzipped files. I untarred those and found what I needed. Simple.
