Database server upgrade
Posted: Wed Mar 30, 2005 1:32 amOver the past 24 hours we have been slowly migrating our databases to a new database server. At just before midnight we completed all our core transfers. The new database server is clocking in at nearly 40 times faster than our old server.
For you motor heads here are some specs:
Dual AMD Opteron 246 processors running 64 bit code
4 gigs of ram
4 ultra 320 scsi hard drives
Not bad for a budget minded database server
Our old server wasn't bad (uptime currently is 452 days) is was just old and over worked. This is like going from a bicycle to a airplane.
